To Read Malayalam Unicode texts, you have to Install atleast one Malayalam Unicode font. Kartika is the default Unicode Malayalam font in Windows XP/Vista/7, which is bundled with Windows. For better reading of Malayalam you can download & install Anjali Old Lipi Malayalam unicode font. After installing Anjali Old Lipi font, in-order to make it default Malayalam font, follow the steps below.

Settings for Internet Explorer (See images for better understanding)

Goto the Menu Tools >Internet Options, then select Fonts, then Select Malayalam from Language Script, then select Anjali Old Lipi & press OK



Setting for Mozilla Firefox (See images for better understanding)

  • Click Tools Menu
  • Select Options
  • Click on the Content Tab
  • Click Advanced button in Fonts & Colors section.
  • Select Malayalam in 'Fonts for'
  • Choose Proportional as 'Sans Serif'
  • Choose Serif as 'AnjaliOldLipi'
  • Choose Sans-Serif as 'AnjaliOldLipi'
  • Choose Monospace as 'AnjaliOldLipi'
  • Choose Default Character Encoding as 'Unicode(UTF-8)'
  • Click OK
  • Click OK in Options window

  • Click Tools Menu
  • Select Preferences
  • Click Advanced tab
  • From the left sidebar select Fonts
  • Click International Fonts button
  • Choose Malayalam in Writing System<>
  • Select AnjaliOldLipi font as Normal font
  • If available choose a Monospace font also
  • Click OK two times and restart Opera
